Over the past couple of months, the City’s Contractor, D’Allessandro Corp., continued making great progress with the utility work on Western Avenue and remains focused on the installation of the new sewer and drain lines. To date, the contractor has:
· Completed the installation the new sewer and drain lines from Memorial Dr. to Jay St.
· Dug test pits at the intersections of Putnam Ave. /Western Ave. and Howard St. /Western Ave. in preparation for the installation of new traffic signal structures.
Upcoming Events & Current Activity:
· On Saturday, March 15, project staff will be hosting an informational table at the Winter Farmer’s Market (located at 5 Callender St.) from 11am-1pm. Project updates and information regarding the Western Ave. art project and upcoming schedule will be available.
· During the evening of Thursday, March 20 (5:30pm-7:30pm at the Moore Youth Center on Gilmore St.), project staff will be hosting an ice cream social event to give residents and business owners an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and view information on the Western Ave. art project and the upcoming construction schedule.
· This past Monday, February 24, the contractor began the installation of a new water main, sewer line and drain line on Pleasant St. between Franklin St. and Western Ave. Pleasant St., from Mass Ave. to Western Ave., will be closed for 4 weeks during general work hours (Monday thru Friday, 7am-4pm) in order to complete the work. Detour signage will be in place to direct motorists to an alternative route. Pleasant Street abutters will maintain access throughout the duration of the street closure.
· Crews are currently installing new sewer and drain lines east of Jay St. (heading towards Central Square).
· Weather permitting; the contractor will resume surface work (roadway and sidewalk reconstruction) in late March/early April.
