Riding high on the success of their last release “Life Outside Our Walls” which the Boston Globe called “densely ringing electric guitars, grand melodic gestures, and a panoramic sweep of space and sound” and the Boston Phoenix said was “a maelstrom of seething but symphonic guitars,” THE GOOD NORTH were at the top of Boston rock scene when they disbanded in 2006, packing the big rooms, scoring commercial play and serving as the go to support for basically every hipster touring act that came through town.
The band’s blend of 80’s style arena rock, new wave dance pop and post-hardcore emo which they’d been honing since 2000 turned out to be a little ahead of its time.
In the meantime members of THE GOOD NORTH went on to form Boston rock phenoms BANG CAMARO, and an unfinished TGN ep was never released.
Until now. Reuniting for one show (although who knows) the band are set to release their latest collection of blazing new wave screamers and anthemic power ballads for free download on their website. That leads up to their return to the Boston stage for the first time in years in a show presented by WFNX New England Product on June 27 at the Middle East Downstairs.
Also performing that night are some of THE GOOD NORTH’s old friends (and two of the best bands in town) THE INFORMATION and TAXPAYER, as well as favored upstarts THICK AS THIEVES and BARNICLE. DJs from the indie dance night THE PILL will be spinning as well.
To hear some of the new songs, including “Where Were You Tonight?” and “Words Stop Making Sounds” go to www.myspace.com/thegoodnorth or look for the entire ep on www.thegoodnorth.com coming soon
