The Dance Complex is sponsoring a film viewing on Sunday 28 March at 7:30pm to raise funds to repair and update the Julie Ince Thompson Theatre in the historic Odd Fellows Hall.
In May 2008, Fox Films cordoned off Mass Ave in Central Square; they were taking up 3 city blocks with equipment. Even as Boston continues to boast about the many movie scenes staged there, film icon Twentieth Century Fox chose The Dance Complex as the venue for the best scene in the movie, Bride Wars.
Staring Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, with narration by Candace Bergin, the story is not worth summarizing. The key issue is that the penultimate scene of this epic movie was shot in the Julie Ince Thompson Theatre. The theater was named in honor of the gifted dancer/choreographer/actor who had her earliest performances there and also served on the Board of The Dance Complex; she died in September, 2003.
And that Thompson Theatre will be where the movie will be screened on Sunday evening, 28 March at 7:30pm, donations to be used to update the facility. The Dance Complex is at 536 Mass Ave, Cambridge, the Central Sq stop on the Red Line. There is ample free parking for cars and bicycles.
A $35 donation is suggested (a $25 fine for leaving before the end of the movie).
Not exactly an Oscar contender, Bride Wars seems most beloved by newly pubescent girls. Those who are 14 years of age and accompanied by a parent will be admitted free.
The Dance Complex is the artist run center for dance in the heart of Cambridge.
Volunteer based and in its 19th year of operation, The Dance Complex receives funding form the Cambridge Arts Council and is supported in part by the MCC.
It is a 501(c)3 non-profit.
