Dr. Daniel Epstein and Friends raising funds for a clinic in Haiti
Sunday 5 June, 2011
At The Dance Complex
536 Massachusetts Avenue
Noted pediatrician and flutist, Daniel Epstein will perform with his artist associates to raise money for HOPEH (Haitian Organization Program for Education and Health) on Sunday June 5th in Julie Ince Thompson Theatre at The Dance Complex. Joining him in concert will be Erik Lindgren, the ensemble Goli and choreographer Rozann Kraus. Suggested donation is $50. Reservations can be made by calling 617.547.9363.
Hopeh is in Juampas, a small village in the central plateau of Haiti, high in the mountains above Port-au-Prince. This is a place where Dr. Lester Hartman, a colleague of Epstein, has been offering his medical services for years. The recent traumas to this tiny universe goaded the two to try to raise funds for the clinic.
Daniel Epstein will be joined by composer and keyboard artist, Erik Lindgren and Goli, the ensemble of Valerie Thompson on ‘cello and Vessela Stoyanova on marimba.
Choreographer Rozann Kraus will perform with Epstein in their signature duet, Presque, set to Debussy’s Syrinx.
Other musical offerings will include Poem by Charles Griffes, a sonata in F by Georg Frederich Handel and several compositions by Erik Lindgren. Lindgren’s Baroque a Go-go is the score for Kraus’s unSuitable, a septet that will be danced by Ann Brown Allen, Alison Ball, James Banta, Kate Nies Brigham, Chien Hwe Hong, Mark Kranz.
Daniel Epstein, flute, graduated from the Eastman School of Music, studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal and was a Fellow of the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra.
He has performed with Frankenstein Ensemble (under the guidance of Erik Lindgren) and currently sings with the deVaronistas, under the direction of Lorna Cooke De Varon.
