Recently I was on assignment in Kendall Square and saw a strange looking blue bus passing by. Many of you probably already know that I’m talking about the EZRide shuttle that links Cambridge residents and employers to the commuter rail, buses and T stations North Station, Lechmere, Kendall Square and Central Square/University Park.
You usually see these types of shuttles being run by big office parks that need to get their employees to and from work. Usually this is because the office park is in the boonies somewhere not accessible via normal public transportation.
EZRide is run by the Charles River Transportation Management Association which runs this and other programs for the benefit of its members. The Association is Cambridge focused and the members include the City of Cambridge, Microsoft, Biogen-IDEC, MIT and the CambridgeSide Galleria just to name a few off the list.
This is a great example of alternative commuting options that are much better for the environment than driving in to an overpriced parking garages. The Charles River TMA has also also partnered with ZipCar to provide discounts if you need to use a ZipCar on a weekday.
I am glad I saw that bus or else I would not have found the Charles River TMA website which is a great resource for those commuting in the Cambridge Area. It is also a great example for other communities as well.
