Central Square Advisory Committee Seeks Members

The City of Cambridge is seeking volunteers to serve on a new Central Square Advisory Committee.  As part of the Kendall Square – Central Square Planning Study, this Committee is being created to advise city staff and a team of consultants in developing a vision and multidisciplinary plan for Central Square and the Transition Area along Main Street and Massachusetts Avenue between Central and Kendall Squares.

It is expected that the Committee will meet approximately monthly for six months beginning in fall 2011.  Applicants should be people who would like to be part of an effort to address a variety of planning issues, including urban design, retail, open space, land use, zoning, transportation, economic development and employment.  Experience in some aspect of these issues would be helpful.  The intention is to create a committee that will include neighborhood residents, representatives of Central Square businesses and property owners and include people with a variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

Committee appointments will be made by Cambridge City Manager Robert W. Healy, during the summer and the work of the Committee is expected to begin in early fall.  Residents, workers, property owners and business owners from the Study Area shown in the adjacent map are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please send a letter by July 8, 2011 describing your interest in the study and any experience you have in working on similar issues via mail, fax or e-mail to:
